T5 Post Icon T5 Caravelle radio antenna

My '05 T5 Caravelle has an irritating radio problem. Intermittent poor reception, drops signal - checked aerial connection on back of radio all OK. By substituting length of wire (think the old metal coat-hanger trick!) reception is restored. Reckon it is probably down to poor connection between internal cable and the built-in antenna. Looks as if this is not in the windscreen but in the rear near-side window glass - trouble is I have no idea where on the glass edge it is located. I don't want to start pulling off all the interior trim to try and find it!
Anyone have any ideas or tips?

Please - not 'go to a dealers', they don't know either!

Thanks

New aerial 10 on ebay
Put on windscreen and through
A pillars
Easier than spending an afternoon
chasing wires through trims
to sort the original

Thanks,Swiss - had a look but not an attractive solution in an Executive Caravelle! Currently I have a length of wire hidden under the dash - works reasonably well - might try running it up behind the A pillar trim.
Still hoping for an answer to my post......

Not totally sure, but I have the same problem.

If you look at these pictures, I can't see the connection/connector... so that might help - from memory the front pillar cover is probably the easiest to get off.

Poor reception is common on the T5...

I'm considering drilling a hole in the roof and fitting a regular arial

I was interested in this thread for that reason - I won't be drilling a hole in the roof though!!

Only one make that gets recommended is Calaero
3 main types (but they make dozens)

Glass mounted
Shark fin
Whip
Latter two being the better
Failing that coat hanger

Calearo surface mount means drilling holes , or the unattractive glass fit - both of which require removing trim to hide the cables.
Surely someone knows the position of the connector on the window glass ?
Got to be less hassle than drilling, mounting, and running the aerial cable to radio! Probably just a dirty connection!

Oh well - I'll have to live with less than perfect reception.....

I've had a look at mine today - it's clear when you look at the aerial in the window that the connections go out at the top.

Looking at it, there are actually two aerials in the window, and on mine, only the rear one it connected (I find though I'd found the reason why I had bad reception when I found the front plug loose!). Front aerial must be for GPS, maybe?

I've poked around, and you have to remove the B and C pillar trims, the grab handle and the luggage hook thingy to get to it, but there is an aerial amplier mounted at the back part number 7H5 035 577J You have to be careful shoving your hands in there, the roof duct runs up taht side at the back and the headlining and the duct are fastened together. It may be best to consider taking the whole headlining out before poking around.

I'm off to google some multimeter tests I can do first.

Tests seem fine, and signal seems okay now (although, not been out). Then I realised that I had wiggled the connections, maybe made better connection?

I fitted an inline booster a while ago to try and cure this, and I remembered that two amplifiers in line can cause problems, but mine is definitely better with the inline connected
