Default 2.4 doka

hey

i have just bought a white j reg 2.4 DOKA.
collected it from manchester yesterday, its now sitting on my drive waiting for transformation to start!

Plans are,
Sort out the smelly interior (i think the hole drilled for the orange flashing light byt the previous owner might have something to do with the damp smell)
Originally i was just going to cover the seats but now i fear might have to be a bit more drastic.
Clear indicators.
Remove the horrendous checkered stripe
Remove the huge ladder rack
Slam it, the back end is aluminum and is so light that it is sitting up really high, im not sure that 80mm is going to be enough so im going to replace the rubbers with poly parts too to try and get some more drop.

stick some alloys on.

and sort out the paint work which is bubbling in some places and has been attacked with a brush in others.

budget is small so its going to be alot of elbow grease and calling in favors from my family.between us we have a collection of 'projects' so this shouldn't be to tough.

just need the weather to brighten up a bit.

Rob

Lovely jubbly, i like the old style bumpers a lot and you have the early three-piece grill. I haven't actually seen the panelled rear section in a doka either.

Looks like a classic doka.

the single rear door was one of the first standard dokas i believe
then they offered two rear doors but both had no windows then both variants with windows in the rear doors
i have found the later ones had opening (sliding)rear windows
(soon to be put in mine)

bit of an update now i have worked out how to resize photos:

got the van cleaned up:

then got to work removing the beacon, glued pennies over the holes for now, hopefully stop the water getting in at least until i can get it sealed up properly. cab is smelling better already, and no more wet head.

removed the vinyl graphics...only to find more, but i kinda like these ones so they can stay for a week or two. until the skin on the ends of my fingers grows back.

then i got the angle grinder out and removed the ladder rack, productive weekend.

i think my favorite part of the weekend was playing with my new heat gun, it helped with softening up the brittle vinyl, and it worked really well on the tired bumper. i couldnt believe how well it worked, read about it before but this was my first try...great trick.

had a bit of a go at cleaning up the sills tonight with a scourer and some white primer, good enough for now.
looking forward to getting it back up north and having a really good go at it now.
